Last week Google announced a new feature to their search results... +1. Similar to Facebook's "Like" button, Google +1 will allow users to recommend websites in organic search and PPC results. This is yet another step by Google to increase more social media elements into it's services. Their goal is to get online users the most relevant results as quickly as possible. Ideally the more +1'd your site is, the better chance you have at appearing to users as the best resource.

The +1 goes to show the importance of both social media and SEO. As of now, the +1 will not be affecting search results, only giving users tips on what the best resource may be. Google stated, "As with any new ranking signal, we'll be starting carefully and learning how those signals affect search quality."

The new +1 will also eventually be rolled out for individual websites, which will make it easy for people to +1 your site, without leaving the web page they are viewing.
